LG swept a three-game weekend series against Doosan with Won-Tae Choi as the “final piece of the puzzle” in their title run. LG extended its winning streak to four games, while Doosan dropped its fifth straight.
The LG Twins swept the Doosan Bears 10-0 in the 10th game of the 2023 Shinhan Bank SOL KBO League at Jamsil Stadium in Seoul on Tuesday. They improved their record against Doosan to 8-2 and their season record to 53 wins, 2 draws, and 33 losses, raising their winning percentage to 0.616.
Choi Won-tae was originally scheduled to pitch for Kiwoom against Samsung in Gocheok on the 29th, but the trade was finalized on the same day, and he started against Doosan in Jamsil on the 30th in an LG uniform. Despite the sudden change in plans, Choi was unfazed by the change. He pitched six innings of two-hit ball, walking four and striking out five to earn his eighth win of the season.
The LG bats helped Choi with back-to-back runs in the first through third innings. In the first, Moon Bo-kyung hit a leadoff double with runners on first and second. In the second inning, Hong Chang-ki singled to right field to bring in Heo Do-hwan to make it 3-0.
The third inning was completely in LG’s favor. Once again, LG showed off its focus after the second inning. With runners on first and second, Moon Bo-kyung hit a fielder’s choice.
However, Son Ho-young followed with a single and Heo Do-hwan drew a walk to load the bases. In the bottom of the second inning, a single by Park Hae-min scored four runs to make the score 8-0. Two runners reached base on Park’s hit, and then Heo Do-hwan scored after Park on a “ghost throw” by catcher Yang Yang-ji.
In the fifth inning, with runners on first and second, Shin Min-jae’s grounder to the second baseman scored Son Ho-young from third. In the sixth, Austin Dean capped the double-digit scoring with an RBI double to left-center field. 토토사이트
With the run support, Choi went six innings, allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out five. He retired the first 14 batters he faced until the top of the fifth inning, and was not shaken by his first hit. The LG fans on the third base side of the plate went wild.
With a 10-0 lead, LG turned to its bullpen in the seventh inning. In the seventh, Baek Seung-hyun worked out of a bases-loaded jam without allowing a run. Oh Seok-joo came on in the eighth and Lee Woo-chan in the ninth to shut the door.
Doosan set the tone early as Brandon Waddell, who had won three straight starts, gave up eight runs in three innings. He gave up eight runs on seven hits, three walks and one strikeout in four innings. His ERA skyrocketed from 0.87 to 2.57.
