Trent Alexander-Arnold is being touted as Liverpool’s new captain.
Liverpool may need to find a new captain ahead of the new season. Jordan Henderson has recently been linked to Saudi Arabia. According to David Onstead of The Athletic, “Liverpool and Al Ittifaq have reached an agreement in principle over a move for Henderson. Henderson has agreed a three-year deal and will be reunited with former teammate Steven Gerrard,” said David Onstine, who broke the news of Henderson’s move to Saudi Arabia.
Henderson has been the team’s captain since Gerrard’s departure from Liverpool. With his predecessor being a club legend, the pressure was on, but Henderson rose to the occasion and became another Liverpool legend and a great captain. During Henderson’s time as captain, Liverpool won the coveted English Premier League (EPL) title, lifted the UEFA Champions League (UCL) trophy, and became a world-class club again.
Even Henderson is likely to leave. It’s a parting of the ways that must happen at some point, but the Reds need to find someone to succeed Henderson and wear the captain’s armband.
Alexander-Arnold’s name has been thrown around. “Making Alexander-Arnold captain could define a new era for Liverpool,” said the Telegraph. Alexander-Arnold’s time will come eventually,” and suggested that Alexander-Arnold should be Liverpool’s new captain.
The outlet cited Virgil van Dijk’s age as a reason why Alexander-Arnold is better suited to captain the team in the long term, and pointed out that Alexander-Arnold has said in the past that he wants to be Liverpool’s captain. 메이저놀이터
“My dream is to captain Liverpool,” Alexander-Arnold told The Telegraph in 2017. Gerrard was my idol. I watched him all week with the captain’s armband on. I always wanted to be like him, so the Liverpool captain’s armband would mean a lot to me.”
In many ways, Alexander-Arnold has the makings of a captain. Not only is he a former Liverpool youth and first-team player, but he is also very talented. He’s also been praised for his mental maturity over the past season.
