NC Outside Hitter is 3rd in ML History? Encarnacion-Strand Debut Breaks ML Exotic Record

Cincinnati Reds’ Christian Encarnacion-Strand, 24, will become the player with the longest name in Major League Baseball history.

According to MLB.com, the official site of Major League Baseball, Christian Encarnacion-Strand will have the longest first name in Major League Baseball history, according to reporter Sarah Lance. Counting both his first and last names (and hyphens), the Cincinnati prospect’s name is 27 letters long. That’s just shy of the 22 letters of Simeon Woods Richardson, who debuted for Minnesota in 2022.”

Encarnacion-Strand, who is ranked No. 5 in Cincinnati and No. 88 in the majors by MLB.com prospect rankings, went 0-for-2 with a walk in the No. 7 spot in the lineup against the San Francisco Giants at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. The game was suspended in the seventh inning with the score tied 2-2.

“For the purposes of this study, players’ names were determined based on their chosen registered names, so Mike Trout’s (Angels) name is Mike, not Michael, and any spaces or hyphens in his last name or in the name itself were included in the character count, but spaces in his first and last names were not,” MLB.com explained.

While Encarnacion-Strand and Richardson are ranked first and second all-time, respectively, the roster with the third-longest name in Major League Baseball history also includes a familiar name to Korean fans. Christian Bethancourt, who played for the NC Dinos of the KBO in 2019, is one of them. Bethancourt is tied for third on the list with a total of 20 letters. 안전놀이터

In addition to Bethancourt, Luis Alexander Basabe, Fautino De Los Santos, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Valerio De Los Santos, William VanLandingham, and Theodore Breitenstein rounded out the top three with 20 letters.

MLB.com noted, “Encarnacion-Strand would be the all-time leader in last names alone. With a total of 18 letters, he has two more than Woods Richardson. However, only Encarnacion appears on his uniform.”
