Los Angeles Dodgers have chosen to part ways with Trevor Bauer (32).
New York Post John Heyman reported on the 7th (Korean time), “The Dodgers have taken Bauer’s designated for assignment (DFA).”
The partnership between Bauer and the Dodgers ended after 17 games.
The Dodgers said in a statement, “It is our position that we must conduct a thorough investigation into allegations of sexual and domestic violence through due process. We followed the prescribed procedures,” he said.
“We have concluded that Bauer’s behavior justifies his suspension as a policy violation. After careful consideration, we have decided to no longer have him as a member of our organization.”
Excluded from the 40-man roster, Bauer was put on standby. If another team is not found within a week, it will be transferred to the minor leagues or released as a free agent (FA).
The Dodgers are likely to part ways without sending Bauer to the minor leagues.
The reason the Dodgers decided not to carry Bauer was because of the controversy he caused.
Bauer was investigated in June 2021 for allegedly assaulting a woman with whom he had sex. The Los Angeles District Prosecutor’s Office dismissed Bauer’s indictment due to insufficient evidence in February of last year, but the Major League Secretariat issued a 324-game suspension after its own investigation.
Bauer immediately appealed, and the penalty was reduced to 194 games through legal arbitration recognized by the Secretariat and the Players Union. As a result, 토토 Bauer will be able to play from the 51st game of the 2023 season.
The Dodgers must pay Bauer the remaining annual salary of 22.5 million dollars (approximately 28.35 billion won). However, he decided to let go of Bauer at the cost of a big loss.
The team that takes Bauer can sign a contract for $720,000 (about 900 million won). However, it is a question mark whether there will be a team that will embrace Bauer, who is still in controversy.
Bauer, who made his big league debut with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2012, went through the Cleveland Guardians and Cincinnati Reds. He was selected as an All-Star in 2018, and in 2020 won the Cy Award given to the best pitcher in the major leagues.
Ahead of the 2021 season, he signed a large contract with the Dodgers for 3 years and 120 million dollars (approximately 151.2 billion won). However, with the Dodgers amidst controversy, he appeared in only 17 games in the first year of his contract, recording 8 wins and 5 losses with an earned run average of 2.59.
